Paul Orange is a writer, amateur herpetologist, volunteer reptile remover, librarian, and book reviewer living in Western Australia.
He has been interested in reptiles for as long as he can remember. Born in Yorkshire, England, he was delighted when his family migrated to Australia, where he subsequently spent fourteen years in the Eastern Goldfields of Western Australia, acquainting himself with the local herpetofauna (reptiles and amphibians) at every opportunity.
Licensed by the Department of Parks and Wildlife, he became the local Snakeman for the town of Kambalda, removing reptiles from backyards, workplaces, and anyplace else they were not wanted.
He also maintained a number of snakes in captivity for use in educational displays; Paul is a firm believer in education to alleviate unnecessary fear and to promote a greater understanding of our unique herpetofauna.
Paul moved to Perth in 1994, and has continued his voluntary service to the community as a licensed Reptile Remover ever since. He continues to study reptiles at every opportunity, and as a result of his research has published both herpetological articles and photographs.
Paul is a research librarian, and occasional book reviewer for The West Australian newspaper. He is a keen collector of reptile books and memorabilia, and is particularly interested in the history of herpetology in Australia, and tiger snakes in Western Australia.
